Supporting our Community

Wauna Credit Union has been a positive part of the Columbia River Communities since 1967, we pride ourselves on participation in the community and preservation of our beautiful land. Some of the ways we participate include supporting local charities & organizations, and sponsoring community events.

A 365-Day Commitment

We offer an Annual College Scholarship for hard working high school students who are Wauna Credit Union members.

We also participate in an aggressive program of Green Initiatives, including a strong recycling program.

We support many local charitable organizations and community programs because giving back to our community is part of the Credit Union way, and just part of being a good neighbor. Our employees are passionately involved in the community, volunteering a great deal of their free time to community events and organizations.

Each year Wauna Credit Union chooses a charity or non-profit organization to support. Funds are raised via employee raffles, "Employee Jeans Day" (employees are allowed to wear jeans on specific days if they make a donation to the charity fund), candy sales, and other such methods.

  In 2013, we supported the Flippin Castle in Clatskanie, raising $3600 for them.
• In 2014, we raised over $7000 for the St Helens Economic Development Corporation (SHEDCO), to help improve St Helens historic riverfront.
• In just the first quarter of 2015, our staff raised $4000 for the Columbia County Humane Society (http://columbiahumane.com) Read the article.
• In the second quarter of 2015, we raised over $2500 for Clatsop Animal Assistance (http://www.dogsncats.org/)!
• In 2015, we raised money for the Oregon & Washington Red Cross to help firefighters and victims of the area wildfires.
• In July 2015, our staff raised money for CULAC, an organization that helps protect Credit Unions and their members from unfair laws and regulations. 
• In 2015, we raised money for the Oregon & Washington Red Cross to help firefighters and victims of the area wildfires.
• Our staff funded and planted the memorial garden at the Columbia Humane Society.
• In 2016, staff raised funds for the family of  Jason Goodding, a Seaside Oregon police officer killed in the line of duty.
• In 2016, our staff helped get ALL the kids on the Backpack Program waiting list into the program! The Backpack Program has even been able to reach into the high school to help kids there too.
• In 2017, we partnered with SOLVE to clean the Astoria Riverwalk.
• Starting in 2018 Wauna Credit Union donated $500 annually to an area educator as part of our Adopt a Teacher program.
• In 2018, employees and members donated $8,750 to the Long Beach Peninsula Back Pack Program.
• In 2018, employees donated over $3,000 as part of our Power of Giving campaign.
• In 2019, we donated $6,500 to the Food for Kids Program at the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry in Astoria.
• In 2019, the lifetime dollar amount of our scholarships awarded to area students surpassed $330,000.
